THE STORY OF PINEAPPLE WOMEN
Pineapple Women is a non-profit organization with a simple yet profound mission: to empower young Latinas to recognize their value, unleash their potential, and pursue their dreams with confidence. Our founder, Andrea Chaves, was a public school teacher in Queens, New York, where she recognized the need to empower this underserved student community. That's why Pineapple Women was born—to provide tools and resources, female role models, and a strong support system for young Latinas. We believe every young woman deserves the opportunity to thrive and succeed. We work to understand the challenges they face and help them build brighter futures for themselves and their community.

We achieve this by promoting skill recognition, supporting personal development for growth, and increasing the visibility of Latina role models.

Why did we call it Pineapple Women?

The board of directors of Pineapple Women is comprised of passionate volunteer members dedicated to serving the girls and young women of the Latinx community.
FOUNDER
Andrea Chaves
An educator for 17 years with strengths in curriculum development and innovation. Passionate about STEAM and sustainability.
TREASURER
Donald Alvarez
Senior financial executive with over 25 years of experience across multiple fields, including technology and manufacturing.
VICE PRESIDENT
Walyce Phillip
Cloud technology program manager with experience in digital media. Actively mentoring students in STEM for over 5 years.
